The laser treatment works by creating thousands of microscopic areas where the top layer of the skin is ablated (removed). Much like aerating the lawn on a golf course, these tiny areas of damage are surrounded by untreated skin, which allows for fast recovery  Traditional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing can take three weeks on average to heal and present the risk of persistent redness, lines of demarcation between treated and untreated areas, and a higher risk of scarring. Ablative fractional resurfacing with the ICON 2940 and ICON 1540 produces essentially the same result with an average of 4-6 days of downtime. For this procedure only local anesthesia is used. Areas that can be treated include the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, specific scars, and certain types of benign skin lesions.

ICON is primarily used for the correction of moderate to deep wrinkles. Ablative laser delivers micro fractional columns of laser light to the top layers of the skin. When compared to traditional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing, ablative laser produces similar results with much less downtime. There is a significant change in skin texture, removal of wrinkles, dark (sun) spots, and abnormal skin coloration.

The treatment will take about 45 minutes. Treatment is not painful, the topical numbing cream and Zimmer Cryo 6 are used to make the treatment comfortable.

Prepare the skin before treatment by avoiding the sun, wearing sunscreen, and following the per-treatment skin care regimen prescribed by the physician.  Medication can be prescribed to prevent an outbreak of cold sores and an antibiotic to prevent infection, starting a day before treatment.

Since this is an ablative laser, you will experience redness, swelling and possibly itching after the procedure. This is normal, and care must to be taken heal appropriately. The skin will be healed in 5-6 days and you can go back to wearing makeup, and doing your daily activities. You may experience redness in the treated areas, but it will fade away quickly. You will have to complete the medications prescribed by our physician and begin the skin care regimen that will help you achieve and maintain the best results.

This powerful laser has amazing results similar to traditional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing. Overall improvement to the skin is 50-75%. It improves the skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and sun spots.  Results typically last more than a year or two, and can be maintained with a professional skin care regime.

You will see noticeable results within the first two weeks post-treatment, once the skin has healed.

The ICON 2940 is an excellent treatment option for surgical scars, acne scars, and stretch marks. Since the laser induces the production of new collagen, it can be used to plump the skin and resurface depressed scars.

Fractional resurfacing treatments may be combined with other treatments such as the EXILIS ELITE non-Surgical Skin Tightening and the IPL Photo Facial Rejuvenation to maximize results.
