Additional Information
My insurance already covers GLP-1 Medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Saxenda, Mounjaro)
That’s great! If we see you as a good candiate for GLP-1 medications, we will certainly prescribe them under the brand name. However, we’ve found these to be denied under most insurance plans. If your insurance doesn’t cover these medications, we recommend the compounded Semaglutide as a safe alternative.
My insurance denied GLP-1's, what now?
Our compounded injections have the same active ingredients as the medication your insurance denied. Without insurance coverage, pharmacies are charging up to $1,500 for a month’s supply.
You can get our injections for a fraction of the cost.
Our compounded Semaglutide can be purchased starting at $199/month. (4 injections, cost varies by strength)
Are compounded medications safe?
Semaglutide is FDA approved for weight loss. It has become so popular due to its success that manufacturers of the brand name medications have not been able to keep up with demand. Compounded Semaglutide still requires a prescription. It is a safe alternative for those who cannot get insurance coverage otherwise.
How do these injectables work?
This medication acts by:
- increasing insulin and decreasing glucagon (like-peptide).
- Increases glucose uptake in muscle
- Decreases production of glucose in the liver
- Decreases gastric emptying (leading to less hunger).
- Also prevents the death of Pancreatic B cells.
- In patients with heart disease it lowers blood pressure, promotes LV function and cardiac output.
This medication is strongly recommended for clients with a history of heart disease, heart attack or high blood pressure.
How do I get started?
Give us a call. If you’re an existing patient with a recent insurance denial for GLP-1 injectable (Wegovy, Mounjaro, etc), we may be able to get you started immediately. If you’re new to MD Wellness, you’ll need to schedule an appointment to be seen for our medical weight loss program.
How often do I have to take it?
This medication is an injectable. It is injected subcutaneously, once a week in either the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
The medication should be taken on the same day each week, but does not need to be exactly the same time of day.
Are there varying doses?
Dosing will vary from person to person. For those not transitioning from a higher dose of a brand name medication, you will be started on the intro dose.
Based on tolerance/response, we can increase dosing if need be.
All clients who purchase Semaglutide will be educated in-office about the medication, including how to administer and properly store.
How is Semaglutide different from other weight loss drugs?
The biggest advantage Semaglutide has over other weight loss drugs such as Adipex is it’s ability to lower the risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
In obese patients who are at risk of becoming diabetic, using Semaglutide cuts their risk in half.
In patients who are already diabetic, if they lose enough weight, this medication will allow them to reach a point where they are able to control their diabetes with diet.
What else do I need to know?
These injections are part of the medications offered in conjunction with our Medical Weight Loss Program. Follow up visits for health monitoring, along with routine blood work, is required for continued use/refills. To learn more about our medical weight loss program, click here.
